Speaker Tower Systems

At Spectrum we have designed a unique Speaker Tower system, which enables us to raise the Mid/Hi frequency speakers up to 6m high, and position them so that they provide very even sound coverage across the whole audience. The Bassmaxx Subs have been fitted with specially designed mounting points so Aluminium Tri-Truss or steel poles, can be mounted to each side of the stack of subs. The top speakers are then flown from another piece of Tri-Truss or cross bar, which sits on top of 2 vertical trusses. The Towers have been designed by Spectrum in conjunction with Showquip who specialize in large concert Truss and Staging manufacturing and is certified to handle very high winds.

Some of the advantages the speaker towers have over more traditional speaker stacks are listed below

Quick and easy to setup

-  Even sound coverage to the whole audience.

-  Having the speakers high in the air elim inates the problem speaker stacks have of being too loud at the front and the people at the back not being able to hear properly. This is due to the crowd absorbing the sound when the speakers are to low.

-  All the sound energy is directed at the audience and not going up in the air where it is wasted, this makes the speakers more efficient

- Less speakers are needed to provide the same sound level, therefore reducing the hire charge.

-  Lights are able to be rigged to the towers, which saves on lighting costs

- Towers can be adjusted to suit the height of the venue

- Better sightlines onto the stage as the speakers aren't “blocking” the stage. Which is especially good for smaller indoor venues

- Concentrating the sound down into the audience and not up into the air greatly reduces noise pollution.

-  With increasing safety awareness and OSH regulations, exposure to high sound levels for long periods of time is a growing concern. With traditional speaker stacks the stacking height is too close to peoples ears, with output levels exceeding 140 dB SPL severe permanent hearing damage will occur after 1 minute . By using the speaker towers the speakers are above peoples ears and the closest you can get is 5m away. As event organizers we have a moral and legal duty to ensure safety at all times.

-  Attractive looking Speaker Towers instead of big ugly speaker stacks

-  Sponsors banners can be flown on the Towers.

We used the Speaker Towers several times over the last year and they worked very well and looked amazing, with the big towers creating a real focal point on each side of the stage while still providing exceptional site lines onto the stage. The sound coverage was very good and even, and for the first time we got very few noise complaints from the neighbours,

Picture shows poor sound coverage at back, due to the audience absorbing the sound. A much bigger system is also needed to get the required sound level at the back, which causes it to be to loud at the front.

Danger!!

Picture shows good sound coverage at the back because the audience is not absorbing the sound as much.
